One day seminar titled “GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES & WAY FORWARD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION & MANAGEMENT IN PAKISTAN” was organized by the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), Government of Pakistan along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under their Global Environmental Benefits (GEB) project.
Dr. Saleem Janjua, Country Coordinator (GEB) of Ministry of Climate Change and UNDP-Pakistan graced the occasion with his presence and delivered the key note address. Dr. Janjua presented the brief overview of the GEB initiative of the Government of Pakistan. He highlighted the importance of environmental information management system in the country that is required for better economic decision-making, and also appreciated the efforts of United Nations in this regard.

Mr.Amanullah Khan, Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP shared his annotations for environmental information and management system and its need for Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi was also present on the occasion. She appreciated the efforts of Government of Pakistan through Ministry of Climate Change for initiating the GEB project and stressed on the significance of EIMS in Pakistan.

The seminar proceeded with presentations and in-depth technical disscussions on EIMS, best pratices and way forward for Pakistan. Stakeholders/Participants from different departments and organizations unanimously stressed on the need for a robust environmental information management system in Pakistan and the role that projects like GEB through UN assistance can play. It was also agreed that all government departments/stakeholders will play their role in a coordinated manner for addressing key issues and safeguarding environment of Pakistan

The Meesha Shafi-Ali Zafar sexual harassment controversy has been in the limelight for quite some time now. The Pakistani singer-actor has now issued a statement on social media to state that Shafi’s case against him has been dismissed. He also urged people to join him in asking Shafi to come to court saying, ‘she should stop hiding behind fake accounts to fight her case and instead come to the court to face the truth’. According to a report, Ali filed Rs 100 crore defamation suit against actor-singer Meesha Shafi, who accused him of sexual harassment on the micro-blogging site Twitter. Zafar said Shafi damaged his reputation through false allegations. The notice given to Shafi also sought an apology using the same social media platform of Twitter proclaiming the client’s innocence.

Sambrial (Badban Report) Prime Minister’s Special Assistant, Minister of Information Firdous Ashik Awan said that the opposition is engaged in maintaining its politics through political outbreak. Prime Minister Imran Khan’s meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang

Prime Minister Imran Khan held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the conclusion of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum (BRF) in Beijing. The two Prime Ministers were accompanied by Ministers and senior officials.

Both leaders reaffirmed the time-tested and strong friendship between Pakistan and China and exchanged views on the myriad facets of bilateral engagement.

The Prime Minister extended felicitations to the Chinese leadership on the successful holding of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum (BRF). Noting the depth and breadth of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Prime Minister said it was of immense significance for the world in terms of connectivity and shared prosperity.

The two sides exchanged views on bilateral collaboration in the context of CPEC and prospects of further deepening economic linkages. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of CPEC for Pakistan’s economy and noted with satisfaction its expansion into new areas of development – including industrial development; livelihood projects; social uplift; and agriculture in line with the priorities of government. He hoped that Chinese investment in Specialized Economic Zones (SEZs) would expand Pakistan’s industrial base and assist in diversifying its export basket.

Underlining the steady growth of bilateral cooperation since the Prime Minister’s last visit to China in November 2018, Premier Li Keqiang expressed satisfaction at the positive momentum of CPEC projects. He hoped that the conclusion of the Second Phase of China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (FTA), would give further boost to trade and economic relations between the two countries. The two sides agreed to further deepen the political, security, economic, education, science & technology, cultural, and people-to-people relations.

It was agreed to maintain the existing momentum of high level exchanges between the two countries.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional issues including peace efforts in Afghanistan and peace and stability in South Asia. They also agreed to closely coordinate in their endeavours.

The two Prime Ministers also witnessed the signing ceremony at which the Second Phase of the Pakistan-China Free Trade Agreement was signed. The list of MoUs/Agreements signed/exchanged on the occasion is as follows:

i. Second Phase of China Pakistan Free Trade Agreement

ii. Declaration for Completion of Preliminary Design of Phase-I for Up-gradation of ML-1 and Establishment of Havelian Dry Port under CPEC

iii. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Marine Sciences between the China Geological Survey (CGS), Ministry of Natural Resources of China, the Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Science and Technology

iv. MoU between CIDCA and Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform on Implementation of the Projects under JWG of CPEC on Socio-Economic Development

v. China-Pakistan Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement

vi. Rashakai SEZ Joint Venture and License Agreement between KPEZMDC and
