The government dropped another petrol bomb on the people as it approved Rs4.26 per litre hike in petrol price effective from June 1.

After the increase, the price of petrol would be Rs112.68.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had recommended an increase of Rs8,53 per litre in petrol price for the month of June.

Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs4.50 per litre, kerosene by Rs1.69 and light diesel oil by Rs1.68. The new per litre price of HSD would be Rs126.82; kerosene would be available at Rs98.46, while light diesel oil would be sold at Rs88.62.

OGRA had proposed a hike of Rs8.99 per litre for HSD, Rs1.69 for kerosene and Rs1.68 for LDO under the monthly fuel charges for June 2019.

Despite a reduction in international crude price, the government is likely to approve a substantial increase in the prices of major petroleum products for the month of June because of currency devaluation.

A senior government official told that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Thursday moved a summary to the government containing calculations on petroleum prices on the basis of existing rates of general sales tax and petroleum levy.

King Salman At OIC Summit Accuses Iran Of Supporting ‘Terrorist Militias’. Click on the link to see full news on BAADBAN TV

In one of his harshest attacks yet on Iran, King Salman of Saudi Arabia accused Tehran of supporting “terrorist militias” that he said were a threat to global oil supplies and regional security.

The king, speaking on June 1 at a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Mecca, described a recent attack on oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and an armed drone assault on Saudi pipeline facilities as “terrorist acts.”

“We confirm that these subversive terrorist acts are aimed not only at the kingdom and the [Persian] Gulf region, but also on the security of navigation and energy supplies to the world,” the king told the gathering.

He said the drone attack on the pipeline was carried by Huthi rebels in Yemen, which he described as a “terrorist militia backed by Iran.”

Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States, is an archrival of Shi’ite-majority Iran and competes for influence in the region.

In recent weeks, tensions have risen in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a key petroleum shipping route at the mouth of the Persian Gulf that Iran has threatened to block.

Earlier this month, Washington announced the deployment of an aircraft carrier battle group and a bomber task force to the Gulf to counter what U.S. officials called “clear indications” of threats from Iran to U.S. interests or its allies in the region.

Iran, which had a representative at the Islamic summit, has denied any involvement in the recent attacks.

“Saudi Arabia has used the holy month of Ramadan and the holy city of Mecca for political gain in order to put to the world baseless claims against Iran,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi told Iran’s ISNA news agency.

On May 30, King Salman told an emergency summit of Arab leaders in Mecca that the international community must use “all means to stop the Iranian regime from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.”

The king accused Iran of “harboring global and regional terrorist entities and threatening international waterways.”

Saudi Arabia had called for the emergency summit to help project a unified position by Muslim and Arab nations against Iran.

Iraq, which has strong ties to both Iran and the United States, objected to the hard line taken against Tehran, saying that the security and stability of Iran was “in the interest of Muslim and Arab states.”

Attack on oil assets in Saudi Arab, Saudi King Salman Urges International Effort to Thwart Iran. Click on the link to see full news on BAADBAN TV

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman said, Attack on Saudi Arab is not just at particular but on the whole Muslim nation.

We’re against terrorism, we don’t want war

King Salman was speaking at the first of three high-level summits in Mecca that were hastily convened after a spike in tensions between Saudi Arabia and its rival Iran. That King Salman could bring regional leaders and heads of state to Mecca so rapidly reflects the kingdom’s weight in the region and its desire to project a unified Muslim and Arab position on Iran.

Tensions have also spiked between Tehran and Washington in recent weeks, with the U.S. sending an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers to the Persian Gulf. The crisis is rooted in last year’s decision by the Trump administration to withdraw from Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers.

Speaking at a gathering of the Gulf Cooperation Council, King Salman said the alleged sabotage of four oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates and a drone attack on a key Saudi oil pipeline earlier this month requires “serious efforts to protect the security and the gains” of the six energy-rich Arab nations.

Iran denies being involved in the attacks.

The king called on the international community to thwart Iran’s behaviors “and using all means to stop the Iranian regime from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, harboring global and regional terrorist entities and threatening international waterways.”

He added that Saudi Arabia remains committed to extending its hand for peace and prosperity of the region.

Attending Thursday night’s GCC summit were the leaders of Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as senior officials from the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar.

That meeting will be immediately followed with an emergency summit of the 22-nation Arab League, minus Syria whose membership remains suspended.

Putting forth a unified position on Iran, however, faces many obstacles. Within the once clubby GCC, there are major differences between countries regarding Iran. Oman, for example, has relations with both Saudi Arabia and Iran and acts as a facilitator of talks.

Qatar, meanwhile, is facing a blockade by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt over its foreign policies. The diplomatic standoff has pushed Qatar closer to Iran.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani’s attended the Mecca summits on Thursday, marking the highest-level visit to Saudi Arabia by a Qatari official since the 2017 rift erupted.

As the Gulf leaders gathered to begin their meeting, Al Thani shook hands with his host, King Salman, but was not seen making any eye contact with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed or Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman very quickly shook the Qatari royal’s hand, but they did not appear to exchange words.

Washington has tried unsuccessfully to mediate an end to the diplomatic standoff between its Gulf Arab allies. U.S. State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said Thursday the U.S. welcomes Saudi efforts to discuss Iranian threats in the region.

“Gulf unity is essential in confronting Iran, to confronting their influence, to countering terrorism writ large, and, of course, to ensuring a prosperous future for the Gulf,” she said.
