Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Wednesday announced that he will not participate in the fundraising campaigns of the Sarwar Foundation from now onwards.
Chaudhry Sarwar held a press conference in Lahore amidst a political dispute with Jahangir Tareen, and said he respects those who criticise him for fundraising of his own organization being the Punjab governor. He admitted that other foundations are also important.
Chaudhry Sarwar stated that he joined politics after establishing business in England. “I had two options; first to become a rich person by continuing my business, and second to enter politics. I chose the politics and started my journey towards the House of Lords. Wherever I went, my heart was always with Pakistan,” he said.
“Thousands of Britishers were employed in my company. I always used my designation for the country’s interests. I worked in education and health sectors in Pakistan, and put efforts in different projects including clean water after assuming charge as the Punjab governor.”
“I always emphasized on the rule of law and worked for the grant of GSP Plus status to Pakistan which gave benefit of $1500 million to the country.
“I collected Rs15 crore funds for water project in 2013 and nobody raised objection at that time. I accepted the governorship because it was party’s decision, and I have never given priority to designations.
“I was not particularly happy after being appointed as the Punjab governor because I was enjoying my job in the Senate. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would have been holding two-thirds majority in Punjab had some decisions been made.
“My plan was to provide clean drinking water to one crore people in one year. I am only left with four years now as one is wasted.”
It is worth mentioning here that the discord between Chaudhry Sarwar and Jahangir Tareen had accelerated the political activities of the Punjab governor.
Chaudhry Sarwar earlier conducted meetings with leaders from anti-Jahangir Tareen group in Islamabad after coming back from abroad. He also tried to call on Prime Minister Imran Khan and a meeting was likely on Tuesday but it could not happen.
Let it be known that different allegations were levelled against Chaudhry Sarwar regarding the Aab-e-Pak Authority and Sarwar Foundation.
