Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has alleged that Prime Minister Imran Khan has sidestepped the issue of the recent clash in North Waziristan, which has given rise to the perception of security forces being controversial.

“Being a chief executive of the country it was your [PM Imran] responsibility to deal with the matter but you did not utter a single word,” the PML-N vice president said in her address at a party event organised in relation to Youm-e-Takbeer, the day when Pakistan successfully test-fired nuclear missiles on May 28, 1998, in Lahore.

On Sunday, a group led by MNAs from tribal districts, Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar assaulted a military check post in North Waziristan, triggering a fire exchange which resulted in multiple casualties, according to the ISPR.

Maryam said FATA was no more an independent area but a part of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, yet the provincial government did not play its part to diffuse the tension.

Ali Wazir remanded in CTD custody for 8 days

The PML-N leader said former PM Nawaz Sharif, who was ousted in 2017, always stood by the security forces in the time of conflict and military operations. “The reason military operations such as Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad were successful was that Nawaz Sharif supported the security forces,” she said.

Sharif’s daughter lashed out at PM Imran, terming him a “selected, incapable” premier.

Hailing her father, Maryam said the one who made Pakistan a nuclear power was now confined to Kot Lakhpat prison.

Sharif, she claimed, rejected a Rs5 billion offer of then US president Bill Clinton for not testing the nuclear missile but did not succumb to international pressure.
